Philadelphia Tour From New York

Rated 5 out of 5

If you want to see the real history behind the US, you have to leave Manhattan for a day. This Philadelphia tour takes you straight to the places where the country actually started and then moves on to a part of Pennsylvania that feels like a different century.

Historic Philly and the Rocky Steps

Philadelphia is famous for being the first capital of the United States. This is where the big decisions were made and where the Declaration of Independence was signed. It’s got a lot of character, from the old brick buildings in the historic district to the massive art museum where everyone goes to run the famous Rocky steps.

The people there are friendly, and the streets are covered in mural art that gives the city a very unique, local feel. It’s a great place to walk around and see where the American story began.

Life in Amish Country A little further down the road, everything changes. In Lancaster County, you’ll find the Amish community. They’ve spent hundreds of years living without the technology we use every day.

Instead of cars, you’ll see horse-drawn buggies on the side of the road. It’s a quiet, interesting look at a culture that values family and hard work over everything else. It’s the perfect way to see a completely different side of American life before heading back to the city.

Philadelphia Tour Itinerary: From Manhattan to Pennsylvania

Heading Out of New York City

Our day starts in Manhattan, where we gather everyone at the designated meeting hotels. Once we’re all set, we’ll hit the road in a comfortable bus heading southwest. The drive to Philadelphia is about 100 miles (160 km), which usually takes around two hours, giving you a chance to relax before the sightseeing begins.

Exploring Historic Philadelphia

Upon arrival, we dive straight into the city’s most iconic landmarks. We’ll visit the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, the very building where the Founding Fathers debated and signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. You’ll also see the President’s House Site and stop by the Christ Church Cemetery to see Benjamin Franklin’s final resting place.

Old City Landmarks and the Rocky Steps

The history continues in our Philadelphia tour as we walk past the Declaration House and Elfreth’s Alley (the oldest residential street in the country). We’ll see the home of Betsy Ross, who designed the first American flag, as well as the Masonic Temple and the colorful Flag Street.

To wrap up the city tour, we’ll stop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Here, you can run up the famous Rocky Steps and take a photo at one of Hollywood’s most recognizable filming locations.

Immersive Experience in Amish Country

Next, we head to Lancaster County to meet the Amish community. This group is known for their simple, traditional lifestyle and their choice to live without modern technology like electricity. You will get to visit an authentic Amish Village, see how they live firsthand, and have some free time to shop for handmade souvenirs and local crafts.

Frequently asked questions

This tour covers the “Big Three” of American history. You will see Independence Hall, where the nation was born, the iconic Liberty Bell, and the Christ Church Cemetery, the final resting place of Benjamin Franklin. We also visit Elfreth’s Alley, the oldest inhabited street in the U.S., making it a perfect day trip for history lovers.

Yes! One of our most popular stops is the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You will have time to run up the legendary “Rocky Steps” just like Sylvester Stallone and take a photo with the Rocky Statue at the bottom. It is one of the best photo opportunities in the city.

The Amish live a “plain” life, meaning they avoid modern technology like cars and electricity. In Lancaster County, you will see a world of horse-drawn buggies, traditional farming, and handmade crafts. It’s a rare chance to see a living community that has preserved its 18th-century roots in the middle of modern Pennsylvania.

We plan specific stops at local hubs where you can find a variety of food options. While meals are not included, these locations offer everything from quick snacks to traditional Pennsylvania Dutch food. These stops also provide time for restrooms and stretching your legs between the city and the countryside.

This tour runs year-round. Spring and Fall offer the most comfortable weather for walking through Philly’s historic streets. However, visiting in the Summer gives you the most vibrant city atmosphere, and Winter provides a cozy, historic feel to the old brick neighborhoods.
