Detailed Itinerary: The Experience

Morning Departure and the Road to the Capital

Your day begins early in Manhattan to ensure we make the most of every minute. As we head south, our first strategic stop is in Maryland, giving you a chance to stretch your legs and grab breakfast before arriving in the capital. Before entering D.C., we’ll pass by The Pentagon in Virginia, the massive headquarters of the Department of Defense. This 12-story building is the largest office complex in the world and serves as a powerful introduction to the scale of the U.S. government.

The Monuments of Washington D.C.

Once in the capital, we visit the most emotional and historic tributes in the city. You will walk through the National Mall, visiting the Lincoln Memorial, and the moving tributes to the veterans of the Vietnam and Korean Wars. We will also stop at the Iwo Jima Memorial, an iconic bronze statue honoring the Marines. Along the way, you’ll see the famous Reflecting Pool (known from Forrest Gump) and the towering Washington Monument obelisk.

Political Landmarks and the Seat of Power

No visit to D.C. is complete without seeing the centers of government. We will take time for photos at the White House gardens and the U.S. Capitol, the heart of the legislative branch. As we drive along Pennsylvania Avenue, you will see the offices that run the country, including the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the National Archives. After this immersive look at the capital, we’ll have a break for lunch before heading toward our next destination.

Philadelphia: The Cradle of Liberty

Our afternoon is dedicated to Philadelphia, the country’s first capital. We’ll walk through the Old City, starting at Elfreth’s Alley, which is the oldest residential street in the nation. You’ll see where the first flag was born at the Betsy Ross House and visit the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed. Before leaving, we make a must-see stop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to run the famous Rocky Steps and take a photo with the legendary statue.

A Panoramic Return

As we head back to New York, we make one final stop in New Jersey. Here, you will be treated to a stunning nighttime view of the Manhattan skyline, fully illuminated and perfect for a final souvenir photo before ending the journey.

Frequently asked questions

We have minivan and bus vehicles, the selected vehicle depends on the number of hikers we have for that day. Both vehicles have air conditioning, large windows, comfortable spaces and the company of certified guides.

For this combined tour, no. Because we are covering two major cities in one day, our time in D.C. is focused on the exterior of the most important monuments. If your main goal is to spend hours inside the Air and Space Museum or the National Gallery, we recommend booking our dedicated Washington D.C. day trip instead, which includes specific free time for museum visits.

This combined tour is a highlights version. We focus on the most famous spots for photos and history (like the White House gardens, the Capitol, and the Liberty Bell). If you are looking to go deep into the museums or spend several hours in a single neighborhood, we suggest booking the Washington or Philadelphia tours separately.

Even though we travel by bus, we do a fair amount of walking through the Memorial Park in D.C. and the Old City in Philadelphia. Some streets in Philly are historic and uneven, so wearing sneakers or walking shoes will make your experience much more enjoyable.
